Open in 2010, Rocky Mountain Legal Center (RMLC) is a non-profit organization that provides free and low-cost legal services to residents of Boulder County. Licensed attorneys and experienced paralegals offer direct legal services in areas of Estate Planning and End of Life Issues, Family Law, Bankruptcy, Housing, Immigration, and Elder Law. Since 2015, RMLC has received grants through the Boulder County Area Agency on Aging that allows them to provide free legal services to county residents over the age of 60. They currently serve approximately 300 Boulder County older adults per year. If you are an older Boulder County adult needing a Will, Trust, or Advanced Medical Directives, give their office a call and they’d be happy to assist.
Contact their office at 720-242-8642 or email Mike at [email protected].
With rising food costs, it can be very difficult to purchase nutritious and good quality food. In Boulder County, we have many options to obtain food and meals.
A few years ago, BCAAA's Healthy Aging Program Manager took older adults on a tour of some of the pantries in the county. They started with Community Food Share (CFS), since they distribute food to 42 partner agencies in Boulder and Broomfield Counties. Attendees were impressed with the quality and quantity of fresh, nutritious food they offer. In fact, they said more people should know about this! If you haven’t been to a food pantry lately, you would be impressed at the freshness and quality of food. Food pantries are dignified and are very welcoming.
Community Food Share is the main food access hub in Boulder and Broomfield Counties. In addition to the distribution of food to pantries and agencies, they provide shopping days at their location in Louisville and distribute food through mobile pantries. They have an impressive shopping program where people can choose what food they want. Fruits, vegetables, grains, nut and seed butters, legumes, beans, bread, meat, eggs, dairy, coffee, shelf stable pantry items, and other nutritious options are available. They also have gluten-free options and try to provide food for other dietary needs. Many items are organic, too.
CFS gets most of their food from grocery stores such as Whole Foods and Sprouts. They also get food from manufactures like Horizon Organic. Local farms and home gardeners provide plenty of their harvest and CFS also has their own farm sites. Many people and companies donate shelf-stable goods. What they don’t get in donations, they purchase items with grant and donation funds.
To round out their services, they also help with applying for SNAP benefits and have a food finder map on their website, which can help anyone find nearby pantries and community meals.
